  • A jazzy gift for my poet mom who loves her cats even more than art & beautiful scenery.
00:00

Dappled sun on the windowpane,
Morning takes its time.
Mossy Mummy pours a mimosa,
Lets the radio chime.
There’s a cat asleep on the good chair,
Another in the hall.
She says, “I live with a couple of cats,”
But the cats have counted them all.

Oh, let the moss lumps gather
Where the afternoon light falls.
Let the yard lions keep their kingdom
By the porch and garden wall.
At Pooh Corner, she’s made beauty
Out of all she’s had to hand—
A little sun, a little wonder,
And a place to let it land.

Saturday is Radio Day,
“Wait Wait” is on again.
She laughs along, the kettle sings,
The cats ignore the whole thing.
Tomatoes ripen by the doorstep,
A kitten peeks through the rail.
The yard lions brought their babies back;
They know who won’t turn them away.

Oh, let the moss lumps gather
Where the afternoon light falls.
Let the yard lions keep their kingdom
By the porch and garden wall.
At Pooh Corner, she’s made beauty
Out of all she’s had to hand—
A little sun, a little wonder,
And a place to let it land.

Van Gogh gets the sunlight,
Renoir gets the blue.
She sets the table beautifully
Because she likes to.
A good meal, a favorite radio show,
The evening soft and bright—
The long road led to Pooh Corner,
And it feels like home tonight.

So let the moss lumps gather
In the last of the golden sun.
The house cats watch the yard lions
As the porch lights flicker on.
At Pooh Corner, there’s a poet
With a whole good life in view—
Mossy Mummy, pour another.
Here’s a little jazz for you.
